Steve is a landscape, nature and fine art photographer based in Williams, Arizona who believes allure and beauty can be found anywhere. For Steve, photography is about understanding the moment, observing surroundings with intention, looking for natural beauty in the light and shadow, lines and patterns or scenery. With a keen eye for detail, he looks for a story that would otherwise remain hidden. His goal is to capture that story with his camera and bring it forward in a way for others to see.

Biography
Steve’s roots began in Kansas where he was raised on a wheat and cattle farm. His interest in photography began at an early age, influenced by an older cousin who had caught the photography bug. That influence gave him a desire to also take photographs of the subjects that caught his young eye. He soon began saving money and at 11 years old he bought his first camera, a Kodak Instamatic 133. That Instamatic served him well for 10 years when, after graduating from Kansas State University and beginning his career with one of the world’s largest food manufacturers he was able to upgrade his equipment. It was then that he bought his first 35mm SLR camera body and 50mm prime and telephoto lenses. Steve immersed himself in photography books and soon mastered the art and technique of exposure and the intricacies of shooting film.

Eventually, career and family life took over and Steve put his interest in photography on hold. Then, in 2017 he went on a hiking trip to Zion National Park with friends and fell in love with the striking beauty and amazing panoramas. Armed with only the camera on his phone, he tried to capture the breathtaking scenery that surrounded him. It was this experience that re-ignited his passion for photography.

As a lifelong learner, Steve has always striven to grow and improve. In the time since his trip to Zion he has completed numerous classroom and online courses in photography, composition and editing. He experiments with new and different approaches to photography and his subject matter has expanded from landscapes to include nature and fine art. What began as a hobby has grown into a passion.

Having retired after 35 years of making food the world loves, Steve has turned his life-long relationship with a camera into a second career. He resides in Williams, Arizona with his wife Karen and two dogs, Timber and Teagan. He spends his time exploring and photographing some of the most beautiful and interesting places the American Southwest has to offer.

In addition to photography, Steve is an avid runner, cyclist, backpacker and woodworker. He gives back by volunteering for Partners in Food Solutions, a non-profit that works to strengthen food security, improve nutrition, and increase economic development across Africa.
